DIY Glitter Bottle Cap Magnets

DIY bottle cap magnets with glitter

These glitter bottle cap magnets were inspired by these mid-century magnets from How About Orange.

To make these, first spray the bottle caps with spray paint. To make things easier, spray them the colour of the glitter you are going to use. That way, if there are gaps where the glitter didn't stick, it won't be that noticeable.

There are 3 ways to make these glitter magnets:

1. With the blue and green magnets, I brushed the surface of the caps with modge podge. I then dipped them into glitter.

2. I covered the silver cap with glitter glue.

3. And the other way to do it is to use glitter dust.

If you used glitter glue, it will set fairly nicely and won't come off. But to set the normal glitter, you can give it a coat of hairspray. Or to give it a shiny finish like I did here, you can use Inkssentials' Glossy Accents. It's a 3-dimensional, clear gloss medium. It dries to a hard and shiny finish.

Cover the top of the cap with the Glossy Accents first. Wait for it to dry, and then cover the sides. Do not shake the bottle as it will create air bubbles.

I put these caps on my fridge using small magnets. I didn't even have to glue the magnets to the back of the caps, they just stick to the cap and the fridge.

Jessica from How About Orange also used a glaze in two other projects: These Pantone chip magnets and the shiny map magnets.
